Banana variety “Siam Ruby” has a compact habit and colourful leaf. When fully grown, plants can grow up to 8′ tall and spread out to cover a 6′ space. Dark maroon is the predominant colour of the leaves and stems, with contrasting chartreuse green dots and streaks on the leaves. This variety rarely blooms, and the fruits are unpleasant. However, if flowers do appear, they are cream in colour and tubular in shape, held in clusters between bracts that are both purple and cream in colour. Young plants have a greener initial colour, which deepens with sun exposure. thrives in warm, muggy climates. Ideal as a backdrop for smaller tropical plants around poolside plantings. Gorgeous in huge patio containers. a perennial susceptible to frost. Fast-growing; produces clusters of foliage 6 to 8 ft. high, and 4 to 6 ft. wide.
